第18集
曹操只身单骑行至吊桥之下，劝吕布归顺于他，共图大业，就在吕布心动的时候，陈宫在城门上对曹操开弓疾射，打乱了曹操劝降的计划。陈宫建议吕布率铁骑屯于城外，与城内步军互成犄角之势，前后袭击可退曹军，吕布原本接受，后因貂蝉偶发风寒改变决定留在貂蝉身边照顾她，躲在城中闭门不出。孰料曹操决开泗水，下邳城顿时变成一片汪洋。就在混乱之际，曹操放出劝降函文诱惑偏将活捉吕布，吕布得知此事又痛打几位偏将，军心大乱。入夜，被打的几位偏将合谋将吕布生擒，曹操又喜又疑，率军入城。曹操端坐白门楼，被缚的吕布向曹操求饶，并求刘备说情。刘备不为所动，暗示曹操不要做吕布的第四个义父，吕布被斩。陈宫怒斥曹操，不屑与之为伍，但求一死。陈宫终被杀。

Oh damn, I never thought I'd shed a tear during this show. But those moments with Chen Gong were powerful as hell. In history he may not have been that significant but in the novel and especially this show he's such a great character

Anyways, What a powerful episode... just wow. I can't stop the tears. Even when I knew what was going to happen. Lu Bu's story is so sad. He was just too strong, but way to emotional and had no mind for the world outside his own feelings. And obviously to easy to tempt!

I really like this characterization of Chen Gong and really feel for the guy.

Cao Cao and Chen Gong were very similar. Both were highly intelligent and had a lot of insight. Both were equally able, though devided by one thing: One had ethics, the other had none. Cao Cao admired Chen Gong, and vice versa. Chen Gong though, consider with ethics and moral values, could never forgive Cao Cao for what he did. Cao Cao on the other hand without the shackles of ethics never held a grudge against Chen Gong.
So in the end, Chen Gong, eventhough as able as Cao Cao, but restricted by his values, could only either betray his code of ethics, or die for it.
曹操和陈宫非常相似。他们都非常聪明，有很好的洞察力。两个人都有同样优秀的能力，尽管他们被某件事分开。他们一个有道德，另一个没有道德。曹操欣赏陈宫，陈宫也欣赏曹操。然而，考虑到道德和价值观，陈宫永远不会原谅曹操所做的一切。另一方面，没有道德枷锁的曹操却对陈宫从不怀恨在心。

i don’t blame Cao Cao,it was most tearjerking episode yet

I couldn't hold my tears. This episode well characterized Lu Bei & Diaochan, Chen Gong & Cao Cao, Liu Bei.

41:00 There is a tone of meditative sadness underlying this epic drama. Chen Gong spends a lifetime of toil and struggles to attain something great. Yet he meet his end saying "what beautiful land!" The theme music captures this sentiment most admirably.

this episode reduced me into a bawling, crying mess sIGH Lü BU AND CHEN GONG, YOU'LL BE MISSED, I am so excited for whatever's next with liu bei and cao cao!!!

It's the warriors series that made me fall in love with this tale. One thing that pisses me off about the warriors series though is how they demonize Lu Bu and Chen Gong. They have Chen Gong actually plead for his life to cao cao before he's executed. But after reading the book and watching this series, I got a little bit of tears for Chen Gong's death. If only Lu Bu was a bit more mature.

Love is a treacherous little thing. Its sweet poison can befall the strongest warrior and lead a man into darkness. Lu Bu was a man who only followed his heart until it led him to his doom.
In a way, he was the polar opposite of many of the strategists and even his own advisor Chen Gong. A powerful child, playing with the flames.
Chen Gong, on the other hand, might have been the only equal Cao Cao ever knew. His demise came at his own choice. He risked everything for an ideal, only to find that the world was not the one he had hoped for.
"My land, my beautiful land." Chen Gon's destiny was decided not because of the ruthlessness of Cao Cao or his own righteousness but because both cannot exist in the same realm. They are so similar in nature and yet so distant. It was Chen Gong's choice to die.
It shatters the soul to see such heroes fade into legend.
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms really elevates this troubled time into a piece of art. And this television show, in my opinion, succeeded in making this epos unforgettable.
“人中吕布，马中赤兔。”
爱情是靠不住的小东西。它甜蜜的毒药降临到最强壮的战士身上，把他带入黑暗。吕布是一个只听从自己内心的人，却也导致把他引向灭亡。

Cao Cao is cruel, but he truly loves and respects talented and loyal individuals. i like this version of Cao Cao has multiple sides, cruel, cunning, intelligent, respectful, ambitious, strong self-control etc. rather than being portrayed as a pure devil

攻克徐州之后，荀彧为了防止曹操沉溺于女色，在兵将酒宴上用激将法使酒过三巡的许褚出门斩杀貂蝉，谁知貂蝉已在曹操面前用七星刀自缢，曹操无可奈何。在指派何人担当徐州牧的问题上，众将士出现了巨大的分歧。而此时徐州士绅呈递的《万民书》更加坚定了曹操对刘备的提防之心。于是，曹操力邀刘备同归许昌觐见天子，以求赐爵封侯。抵达许昌之后，刘备与汉帝顿觉亲情无限，刘备荣升左将军、宜城亭侯。当天晚上，谋臣程昱密见曹操，建议他预做筹谋，分清敌友。三日后，君臣文武许田行猎之时，曹操公然夺过汉帝祖传宝雕弓射鹿，并昂然承受将士们“万岁”之声。曹操冷静地发现“晋封王位”的时机不成熟，他决不可做第二个袁术。当天夜里，宫中突然传报：汉帝行猎遇寒，卧病不起。刘备闻讯大惊，匆匆入宫探视。

Although Liu Bei goes on to have both big victories and big defeats on the battlefield, one can't help but be most impressed that he was able to politically upstage Cao Cao in his own backyard--the only person to ever really be a threat to him from within.

深宫之内，献帝坐在厕所内向刘备倾诉其心酸经历，叔侄二人抱头痛哭。献帝以族亲晚辈之礼向刘备下跪，恳请其在外谋立英雄大业，匡扶汉室。刘备大恸，立誓铲除巨贼曹操。翌日，献帝在功臣阁召见国舅董承，赐予一件内藏血诏的宫廷玉带。曹操闻讯赶来，并未发现任何异常。入夜，董国舅方才发现那件玉带诏。几日后，董国舅向刘备出示玉带诏，刘备正式领受了“联络天下英雄，除贼扶汉”的庄严使命。此后，刘备一直在园中种田以作韬晦之状，曹操的屡次宴请令他不堪其扰。袁绍大败公孙瓒的消息传来，令曹操如坐针毡，而伪帝袁术也欲追随袁绍，刘备主动请缨驻守徐州以阻袁术，在献帝的怂恿下，曹操终于同意下旨并给予刘备一枚兵符及五万人马。刘备领兵星夜驰往徐州，他讨贼扶汉的大业开始了！

I love how that soldier ran into the throne room, bowed to Cao Cao, and Cao Cao had to gesture like "Not me, you idiot, the guy in the big hat" to get him to bow to the Emperor instead.
我喜欢那个士兵跑进宫殿，向曹操鞠了一躬，而曹操却说“不是我，你这个笨蛋，是那个戴大帽子的家伙”的手势让他向皇帝鞠了一躬。
Superb acting by the guy who played Liu bei. Until the Lu bu arc ended he was monotonous and stable. Now in this episode, the character exploded with a lot of pent up frustration.

The infamous "discussion of heroes over plum wine between Liu Bei and Cao Cao" scene.. . I do love Liu Beis composure and humbleness in this series too.

It's always amazing how Cao Cao could see Liu Bei's true ability even when Liu Bei had previously failed repeatedly and doesn't even have land or army at the moment!

I really like the intelligent dialogue and the subtle back and forth scheming at the belt scene. Cao Cao tests Minister Dong with an out of character bullying session to determine if there is more to the belt and whether Dong has a backbone and could pose a threat to him in the future. If Dong has insisted on taking the belt back and made the whole thing into a personal honor situation, he would probably be arrested and tortured at the very least and may even be secretly executed even if Cao Cao couldn't find the hidden decree.

The Emperor in power now is nothing but an incompetent weak tool, Whereas Cao Cao is legitamitely earning the peoples loyalty and would make for a competent ruler...
If a ruler is weak then they should be deposed. Not kept in power purely because of tradition.

I don't get how you have people like Liu Bei who stick out their neck for a crumbling dynasty. In the course of history, even at the time of the Three Kingdoms, dynasties have fallen only to have a new one replace it. I'd rather follow a capable man like Cao Cao than a (possibly) incompetent one like Liu Xie. But I guess that's the difference in culture.
我不明白为什么会有像刘备这样的人，为一个摇摇欲坠的王朝“挺身而出”。在历史的进程中，即使是在三国时期，王朝衰落，接着就有一个新的王朝取代它。我宁愿追随曹操这样有才能的人，也不愿追随刘协这样(可能)无能的人。但我想这就是文化的不同。
